I have always loved good science. It is one reason I was attracted to USANA Health Sciences, a nutritional company based on a real commitment to quality products backed by published peer-reviewed scientific research.

This past weekend I had the distinct pleasure to meet Dr. Brian Dixon, one of the Senior Scientist at USANA Health Sciences, while I was in Anaheim, California.

Dr. Dixon earned a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology from Oregon State University’s Linus Pauling Institute, where he focused his research on the underlying biochemical mechanisms of the aging process and the therapeutic potential of lipoic acid. His primary role at USANA is to facilitate and manage all clinical studies conducted at USANA.

Needless to say, this guy is brilliant, and he does a wonderful job supporting all USANA associates. Saturday evening I asked him to describe his doctoral work. Wow, very impressive indeed, as was his humor, poise and confidence in the quality science behind each of USANA’s products.

Additionally, Dr. Dixon is quite an accomplished athlete, and truly devoted to healthy lifestyle choices based on good nutrition, exercise, rest, and optimal dose science-based nutritional supplementation.

“Nutrition has always been close to my heart,” Dr. Dixon says. “I joined the USANA scientific team for their unyielding and uncompromising edict to produce the highest quality science-based health products in the industry.”

Thank you Brian for making my USANA business both easier and more fun, through your commitment to excellent science.

For technical information on USANA’s Science Based products try this incredible link, ASK THE SCIENTISTS

The first was The Healthy Home Book Tour, which visited Los Angeles on 30 March. The book signing and interactive presentation by author’s Dr. Myron Wentz, and Dave Wentz was well worth the flight from the east coast. I am also looking forward to attending this event in Boston with my daughter in one week.

In May I will return for another week in Los Angeles working closely with Simon, and my close friend Scott McGee. I am looking forward to learning again from Robert Allen, this time in San Diego, as part of Team XLR8′s leadership training. Thank you Simon and Scott for making these exceptional events possible for me.

A U.S. Senate hearing report released 29 March 2011, highlights 42 locations throughout the U.S. that have alarmingly higher incidences of certain diseases, including cancer and birth defects. Report, Hearings Focus on Disease Clusters.

According to Gina Solomon, MD, MPH, senior scientist at the National Resources Defense Council and one of the authors of the report, who testified yesterday before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works,

“Although it is difficult to conclusively prove what caused any specific disease cluster, we can gather invaluable clues and hints from these tragic events. Some clusters of cancer, birth defects, and other chronic illnesses such as asthma are thought to be linked to chemical exposure or other toxic pollutants. A 2010 report from the President’s Cancer Panel pointed to pesticides, fertilizers, pharmaceutical by-products that enter the water supply, household chemicals, and tanning beds as potential causes of disease.”

“Emissions from cars, trucks, and planes add to the toxic mix, the authors wrote. They concluded that “the true burden of environmentally induced cancer has been grossly underestimated.”

It only makes sense to protect ourselves by decreasing environmental exposure to known toxins, especially those which are already in our own homes, to which we unknowingly are exposing ourselves daily.

I am currently in Los Angeles, California, and will attend an event promoting this much needed awareness, The Healthy Home Book Tour. I will also attend a similar event in Boston on April 9th. I would strongly suggest reading this interesting and timely publication to improve your health and the health of your family. Please contact me for more information or go to www.myhealthyhome.com

Today I spoke to a group of 25 young athletes at Van Der Meer Tennis University on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The topic was Nutritional Supplementation for the Competitive Athlete. We started with an introduction of the work of Dr. Kenneth Cooper on free radical induced oxidative stress during intense exercise, highlighting his studies on elite athletes at the Cooper Aerobic Institute in Dallas, Texas. We then discussed the work of Dr. Myron Wentz, specifically regarding his unique contributions in the field of Human Cellular Nutrition. Finally, we reviewed how to choose quality nutritional supplements with attention to Pharmaceutical Grade Manufacturing, Independent Third Party Certification, Synergy, and science based Optimal Dose. These young rising tennis stars had many excellent questions and observations, and were wonderfully attentive during and after the presentation. It was of note that one of the Van Der Meer’s former students, Liezel Huber, is the current defending U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Champion, and a longtime advocate of USANA supplements. She is one of over 160 current WTA professional athletes who trust their health to USANA, which has been the official health supplement supplier to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour since 2006. Thank you Van Der Meer Tennis University for hosting this presentation.
